# Blackmagic Camera on Android in 2026: which phones get Log, and which are stuck with HLG

> Blackmagic's spec sheet still stops at the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25. The release notes tell another story: Samsung Log, O-Log2 and APV on a short list of phones.

Blackmagic Camera for Android reached version 3.5.1 on 29 October 2026, and Log recording still depends on which phone you own. Blackmagic's release notes, and the coverage of each update, put Samsung Log on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and S26 Ultra, with the S25 Ultra reported by owners. OPPO's O-Log2 arrived with 3.5 on the Find X10 and OnePlus 16 series. On a Pixel, a Xiaomi or a Sony Xperia you get Rec.709 or 10-bit HLG, and no note we read adds Log for them.

You won't find that list on Blackmagic's own tech specs page. It still names the Pixel 6 to 9, the Galaxy S21 to S25 and the Xiaomi 13 and 14, and its colour space line reads "Rec. 709, Rec. 2020 HLG10, BT2020 HDR10". The newer phones and the Log profiles only show up in the update notes, spread over a year of releases.

## In short

- Current version: 3.5.1, free on Google Play and the Galaxy Store, Android 13 or later.
- Log in the app: Samsung Log on recent Galaxy flagships and foldables, O-Log2 on the OPPO Find X10 and OnePlus 16 series.
- Everyone else on the list records Rec.709, Rec.2020 HLG10 or HDR10, in H.264 or H.265.
- The S26 Ultra adds Samsung's APV codec, 6K open gate and 8K at a true 25 fps.
- Audio is AAC only on Android. The iPhone version gets PCM and ProRes.

## Which Android phones record Log in Blackmagic Camera?

Blackmagic adds Log one phone family at a time, in the update notes. Here's every phone where a note from version 3.0 onwards, or the phone maker's community, confirms a Log profile inside the app.

Table: Log profiles in Blackmagic Camera for Android, by phone

| Phone | Log profile | Since | How sure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra | Samsung Log, with calibrated Samsung Log LUTs | 3.1, October 2025 | Notes say "compatible devices"; S25 Ultra named by SammyGuru and owners |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 | Samsung Log | 3.1.2, November 2025 | Release notes |
| Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra | Samsung Log, plus APV codec | 3.2.2, March 2026 | Reported by The App Whisperer; APV support also listed by Wikipedia |
| OPPO Find X10 series | O-Log2 | 3.5, October 2026 | Release notes |
| OnePlus 16 series | O-Log2 | 3.5, October 2026 | Release notes |
| Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra | Not stated | 3.5.1 "optimized for" | Google Play notes mention no Log |

The Galaxy S24 Ultra has Samsung Log in Samsung's own camera app, but owners on Samsung's community forum say it doesn't appear in Blackmagic Camera. The vivo X300 Ultra is a similar case: it shoots 10-bit Log at 4K 120 fps in vivo's app, while Blackmagic's spec sheet lists vivo only as "compatible models" with no Log mentioned anywhere.

## Is your phone on Blackmagic's supported list?

The tech specs page is the only list Blackmagic publishes. It adds an asterisk: "Not all models support all features."

Table: Supported models on Blackmagic's tech specs page, 1 November 2026, against later release notes

| Brand | On the spec page | Added later in release notes |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung | Galaxy S21, S22, S23, S24, S25, S25 Ultra, Z Fold; Tab S9 | Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, S26 Ultra, Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra |
| Google | Pixel 6, 7, 8, 9, all except Fold | No Pixel 10 note found |
| OnePlus | 11 and 12 | OnePlus 16 series |
| OPPO | "Compatible models" | Find X10 series |
| Xiaomi | 13 and 14; Pad 6 | None found; the 14 Ultra camera grip works as a controller |
| Sony | Xperia 1, 5 and Pro-I series | 120 and 240 fps on supported Xperia since 2.0 |
| vivo | "Compatible models" | None found |

If your phone isn't named, the Play Store decides. One Play Store reviewer runs it on a Redmi Note 13, a phone missing from every list, but you only get what the phone's camera driver exposes. Expect fewer lenses, frame rates and colour options than on a flagship.

## No Log on your phone: is HLG10 good enough to grade?

For most Pixel and Xiaomi owners HLG10 is the best the app offers, and it's a real option. HLG10 means 10-bit HEVC with the HLG curve and Rec.2020 primaries, so you get far more room in the grade than with 8-bit Rec.709. It isn't a Log curve, though. Highlights roll off harder, and a Samsung S25 Ultra owner on the Blackmagic forum found HLG converted to Rec.709 in Resolve looked worse than Samsung Log from the same phone.

Table: Colour options in the Android app and what to do with them in Resolve

| Setting | Bit depth | In DaVinci Resolve | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rec.709 | 8-bit in H.264; HEVC depends on phone | Grade directly, no transform | Fast turnaround, social clips, older phones |
| Rec.2020 HLG10 | 10-bit | CST from Rec.2020 / Rec.2100 HLG to your timeline space | Phones without Log that you still want to grade |
| BT2020 HDR10 | 10-bit | CST from Rec.2020 / ST2084 PQ, or an HDR timeline | HDR delivery only |
| Samsung Log, O-Log2 | 10-bit | The maker's LUT, or your own CST setup | Mixing with other cameras, high-contrast scenes |

Lock white balance before you roll in HLG. The app has a "Lock White Balance on Record" switch in Camera Settings, and a white balance shift inside a 10-bit HLG clip is harder to undo than exposure. In Europe, set "Flicker Free Shutter Based On" to 50 Hz and shoot 25 or 50 fps under mains lighting. The 8K 25 fps option on the S26 Ultra exists for the same reason.

## How far behind the iPhone version is Android?

Table: Blackmagic Camera, Android vs iPhone, from Blackmagic's tech specs

| | Android | iPhone |
|---|---|---|
| Codecs | H.265, H.264; APV on supported models | H.265, H.264, Apple ProRes; ProRes RAW with external storage |
| Colour spaces on the spec page | Rec.709, Rec.2020 HLG10, BT2020 HDR10 | Rec.709, Rec.2020 HDR, P3 D65, Apple Log, Apple Log 2 |
| Log | Only through release notes, on a few phones | Apple Log on 15 Pro and later, Apple Log 2 on 17 Pro and later |
| Built-in Log to Rec.709 LUT | Samsung Log LUTs on compatible devices | Apple Log to Rec.709 |
| Audio | AAC | Linear PCM, IEEE Float or AAC |
| Resolution | 8K, 4K, 1080p, 720p, by model; open gate on some phones since 3.1 | 4K, HD, 720p and open gate, by model |
| Price | Free | Free |

With AAC only, you can't record uncompressed sound into the clip on Android, even with a good wireless kit plugged in. If you run a DJI Mic 3 or similar, record a backup on the transmitter and sync it in the edit. Our [DJI Mic 3 32-bit float guide](https://www.4filmmakers.co/news/dji-mic-3-32-bit-float-camera/) covers what reaches the phone and what stays on the transmitter.

## Which Android phone makes sense for Blackmagic Camera?

Table: Who gets what

| If you have | Shoot in | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | Samsung Log in APV, or HEVC for smaller files | The most complete Android setup: 6K open gate, 8K 25p, APV |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 | Samsung Log, HEVC | Check the Log option shows in your build before a job |
| OPPO Find X10, OnePlus 16 | O-Log2 | Support landed in October 2026; few published tests so far |
| Pixel 6 to 9 | HLG10, Rec.709 | Good manual control, no Log in the app |
| Xiaomi 13, 14; Xperia 1, 5 | HLG10, Rec.709 | Xperia gets 120 and 240 fps; Xiaomi 14 Ultra grip works |
| Galaxy S24 Ultra | HLG10 in Blackmagic, Samsung Log in Samsung's app | Owners report no Samsung Log in Blackmagic Camera |

Table: Blackmagic Camera on Android: pros and cons

| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Free, with shutter angle, ISO, white balance and 24, 25, 48 or 50 fps that stock apps often hide | Log only on a handful of Samsung, OPPO and OnePlus phones |
| Proxies, LUTs, false colour, zebras and Blackmagic Cloud sync to Resolve | AAC audio only |
| Multi-phone remote control and 4K HDMI out since 3.4 | The official supported list lags the release notes by a year |

If you buy an Android phone mainly to shoot with this app, buy one that has Log in Blackmagic's notes today, and test the exact model before a paid job. ## Questions people ask

**Q: Does Blackmagic Camera for Android support Log?**
On some phones. Release notes add Samsung Log on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and S26 Ultra, with the S25 Ultra reported by users, and O-Log2 on the OPPO Find X10 and OnePlus 16 series. Pixel, Xiaomi and Xperia phones get Rec.709 and HLG10.

**Q: Can Blackmagic Camera record 10-bit on Android?**
Yes, on phones that offer it. HLG10 and HDR10 are 10-bit formats in HEVC, and the Log profiles on Samsung and OPPO phones are 10-bit too. Rec.709 in H.264 is 8-bit.

**Q: Does Blackmagic Camera work on the Pixel 10?**
Blackmagic's spec page lists the Pixel 6, 7, 8 and 9, and we found no release note that adds the Pixel 10. Google Play decides whether the app installs on your phone, so check the listing on the device.

**Q: Can I record ProRes with Blackmagic Camera on Android?**
No. Blackmagic lists Apple ProRes for iPhone and iPad only. Android gets H.264, H.265 and, on supported Samsung phones, APV.
